Irish old-style step and sean-nós dance is regaining popularity as a social and enjoyable pastime for everyone. This weekend course will introduce participants to popular dances and give an insight into the music and dance tradition in Ireland.
This fun and active course is suitable for beginners and improvers and will introduce participants to the jig, reel and include the Ulster dance Maggie Pickie, as well as the best of Donegal couple dances. At the end of the course, you will have more confidence to take part in music sessions and to take the next steps in progressing your solo and group dancing skills.
From Co. Derry, and now living in Donegal, Joe McGuiggan has been dancing since the age of five years in the old traditional style of the region. In his adult years he has been influenced and inspired by the old-style Irish step dancers from the area and elsewhere in Ireland. He has worked as a dance instructor in Derry and throughout Ireland, and has facilitated workshops as part of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and at World Academy of Irish Music and Dance, University of Limerick. He has won several prizes and has performed at international events including the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention and the Celtic Colours Festival, Nova Scotia.
