Questions? Answers!

If I stay in self-catering accommodation — what is that like?We rent houses locally during the course season. Usually, 4-5 participants share these, living and cooking together. It gives you the freedom to come and go as you want and stay within your preferred budget. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the area, meaning you can eat out or cook at home as desired. Most of the houses are within a short walking distance of Oideas Gael, all have bathrooms with shower and heating. In some cases, you may need to learn how to light a turf fire — it isn't that difficult!

How close to Oideas Gael's centre will I be?Gleann Cholm Cille is a rural area—our accommodation providers are spread throughout the valley and only a small number of accommodation providers are directly adjacent to the Oideas Gael campus. Most are within a short walking distance (5–15 minutes) of Oideas Gael, however, while a small number are more suited to those who are in a position to drive. Your choice of accommodation does not necessarily determine your distance from our centre. A number of factors decide where we place each participant, including accommodation type, whether the person has a car, any disabilities or walking issues, when the booking was made, etc. For this reason, it is important you fill out the booking form completely and accurately, and let us know if you have any special requirements. Our most popular accommodation choices often fill up quickly, so reserve early!

Do you cater for vegetarians or other dietary requirements? All of our accommodation providers are experienced with a variety of dietary requirements. Just let them know when you arrive. You can even show them how to prepare for your own food needs!

Do you cater for families? We always recommend that a family rent a local cottage or house. We will assist in reserving this. If parent/parents are attending the course, we can help arrange for a local young person to look after the children during class sessions. Parent/parents make their own arrangement with the childminder before arrival.

Bed clothing and linen requirements? All bedlinen is provided in B&B and self-catering houses. We prefer that people bring their own towels although if you are travelling from abroad and would prefer not to carry extra luggage we do have a back-up supply!

Where and when do I pay for my accommodation?Accommodation fees are paid on arrival at course. B&B accommodation is paid directly to the host families, self-catering accommodation is paid through the Oideas Gael office. It is advisable to have cash for this transaction as credit card facilities may not always be available depending on the accommodation provider.

How many nights does my accommodation booking include? If booked through Oideas Gael, your accommodation is from the start date of your course until the morning of departure date. For example, if doing a week-long course then your accommodation is available from the Saturday afternoon (start date of course) with checkout the following Saturday morning (7 nights in total).
